Operation Rice Bowl, sponsored annually by Catholic Relief Services is a simple way for individuals and families to be in solidarity with their brothers and sisters overseas. The program utilizes the traditional Lenten practices of prayer, fasting and almsgiving to focus attention on the plight of many people in the world who are hungry. The program has been in existence for more than 30 years, raising $8 million annually to support the work of Catholic Relief Services and local hunger programs.
Last year, folks in the Diocese of Lexington raised over $28,000 to support Catholic Relief Services. The campaign also raised an additional $7,000 to support the efforts of local anti-poverty programs.
Rice Bowls, the simple cardboard bank which holds donations, may be obtained through your parish or school. They are often given to children as part of a Religious Education program. Don't see Rice Bowls at your parish? Visit catalogue/orb/crs.org to order your very own Rice Bowl Kit.
